Yesterday, Brando Skirts hit us up with a delightfully eclectic mix of damaged rock songs, more often than not guitar-based, but most of the time weighed against fantastically freaked out vocal loops, or a rolling hill of feedback, horns on the fritz, heaps of dual-melody dissonance, found sound city Frequencies, vocal harmony. It almost feels like a throw-back to an earlier time when bros made dissonant post-punk and Sonic Youth reigned as the one and only right way. 2003? Maybe just 2010, this stuff is great.

I just downloaded their first record, Buffalo Buffalo Buffalo, for free over at Proyekto Records and it’s definitely conjuring up those early anticon. feelings. For many years The Social Registry and Tonic partnered to put on forward thinking events at their Norfolk Street location until it closed a couple years ago. John Zorn’s venue, The Stone, asked the fine people behind Tonic to curate the month of June and they, in turn, asked us to curate one of the evenings.

This Saturday we are pleased to present a round robin of sorts. The NYC debut of Carter Maness & Luke Iannini, a solo sessions from Sam Hilmmer of Zs and a special solo performance from Mira Billotte of White Magic. Each artist will be playing two short sets, one at the 8PM set time and another at the 10pm set time.”

We recorded this jam at 1214 Hampton as part of a new supergroup called Cancer Sanchez and The Wild Balls. It’s sloppy yet sort of fun. Go Tucson!

nyc crew -

i’ll be playing in the full brando skirts lineup with mike jacobs on new year’s eve. show starts at 10pm sharp (we want to go out, too!) and takes place at pete’s candy store (709 lorimer in brooklyn).
